The Komodo National Park is one of the most famous National parks in the world due to its location as well as the kind of flora and fauna it has. It is located with the Lesser Sunda Islands in Indonesia. It is inhabited with around 5700 giant lizards; these lizards have aggressive appearance and behaviour. This aggressive behaviour gifted them the name “Komodo”. So these lizards are called Komodo dragons and the Park got its name for these lizards.

The Park consists of three primary and about 26 small islands. The location of the Park, surrounded by these islands makes it more worthy of visiting. It is such a pleasant and beautiful scene to be watched. Komodo National Park was founded in the year 1980 to preserve the Komodo Dragons. The Park is expanded for about 1722 square kilometres. Out of the 1722 square kilometres, 603 square kilometres is a land, and the rest is the vast amount of water surrounding it.

As the Park is situated on the island, it is not so easy to reach there. So, how to reach Komodo National Park? Well, the answer lies in the fact that the nearest city to the Park is Labuan Bajo. You can reach Bali via flight, and then there are daily flights from Bali to Labuan Bajo. The other option is to reach Lombok and then have a boat ride till Labuan Bajo.

There are so many exciting facts about Komodo National Park. Let’s peek through them. In the year 1991, Komodo National Park was declared as UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has also been as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. It is also a part of a Coral triangle which is a triangle that has some of the richest marine biodiversity on Earth. This National Park majorly has a population of Komodo Dragons.

Entry Fees

The Komodo National park charges a different fee for different kinds of adventure you want to go for. Another unique feature of Komodo National Park is its sand. It has colourful sand on the beaches, which makes it more beautiful. The blue water, large green plants, and colourful sand is just a perfect thing to watch. The best time to visit Komodo National Park is the dry season. It is basically from April to December. During this period, the temperature is moderate, and rainfall is minimal. In January to March, there is a little high rainfall which is not suitable for the visit.

What are the things to do at Komodo National Park?

  1. Once you are there, the first and foremost thing you must do is to watch and learn about the Komodo Dragons. You must attend the pre-historic Komodo dragon but be careful. These dragons do not usually fire at you, but in case they do, they remember they are poisonous. As Komodo dragons are found only on Komodo and Rinca Island, so this is the only opportunity you have to watch them.
  2. Once you are there, don’t forget to hike the top of Pardar Island. At the top of it, the landscape is breathtaking. The hike is a little rocky and challenging, but it is worth taking the pain.
  3. If you love underwater life or you love adventure, you must go for a scuba diving in the Komodo National Park. Scuba diving in such clean water having such vast life inside it is every adventure seekers favourite place.
  4. There are some resorts available at the Park so that you can stay at night if you want. If you stay at night that you must do, just move out of your room, go to the beach, lie down and watch the beautiful stars. The look of the galaxy sitting with the sound of waves is mesmerizing.
